W1262 ### Confederate cavalry saber, Haiman. . The Confederates liberally followed the Model 1840 wrist-breaker designs, using features such as the handle with with slight curve, and hilt with three branches, otherwise there is much variation. This pattern, is tentatively attributed to Louis and Elijah Haiman, Columbia Georgia, based on the welding irregularity at the ricasso and the shape of the pommel, handle and guard, however, the maker did not mark many of their sabers. Manufactured by Louis and Elijah Haiman, Columbia Georgia Standard features include: pommel has contours similar to the Federal pattern. Handle has single curve, and is oil cloth covered with a single strand of copper wire which is not twisted. Blade has no fullers. Grip has leather wrap and wire, leather washer missing, handle is has slight wiggle, scabbard intact with light rust, nice brazing seam, scabbard throat has been replaced, drag shows damage but is secure. |
