Button-1111-Army-Officer-spherical-plain Button-1111-Army-Officer-spherical-plain Federal Army Officer button, 2part spherical. Round ball or bullet buttons were issued to Army officers and West Point cadets for a brief period ca1830s. Ball buttons smaller than coat sizes, 17mm to 19mm, or with backmarks later than 1830s were probably used on civilian garments. Most ball buttons depict plain face. Round ball or bullet buttons were issued to Army officers and West Point cadets for a brief period ca1830s. Ball buttons depicting eagle on the face may have been issued to militia officers. Button-1121-Army-Officer-3part Button-1121-Army-Officer-3part Federal Army Officer button, 3part staff. The 3part staff button was the primary Army officer's button used in the Civil War. Button-1122-Federal-official Button-1122-Federal-official Federal official button. Button design is very similar to the staff buttons used by Federal officers but was likely intended for Federal officials, buttons in this category were made by Europeran manufacturers, are very high quality and may have been custom designed. Federal official symbolism, eagle with shield, arrows for war, olive branch for peace, surrounded by stars.
