Button-4761-North-Dakota Button-4761-North-Dakota NORTH DAKOTA ND North Dakota was admitted into the Union in 1889, the 39th State (al­ though it has been stated that President Harrison intentionally shuffled the proclamations of the two States before signing). The territorial seal of 1861 was adopted in 1889, with slight rearrangement of the motto and the substitution of three bundles of wheat for the three bundles of sticks. The motto is LIBERTY AND UNION, NOW AND FOREVER, ONE AND INSEPARABLE. The 42 stars represent the number of States in the Union in 1889.
