Rifled artillery projectile, Blakely design, Confederate manufacture, bursting shell, pattern with smooth sides, copper ring sabot secured with rectangle post, copper time fuze, Confederate rifle, 2.9in. Projectile was Confederate manufactured and is believed to have derived from an English design, that of T. A. Blakely. The sabot system utilized was a thick copper ring, secured to the shell by a square internal post with a round knob. This pattern is smooth sided, rounded nose. There is no lathe dimple in the base. Fuze employed was a Confederate copper time fuze, two spanner holes, Jones pg. 41. Projectile measures: diameter 2.86in., length 8.25in. (excluding fuze), weight 8.9lbs.
