Rifled artillery projectile, Delafield design, bursting shell, Parrott time fuze, Parrott 20 pounder rifle, 3.67in. Projectile was manufactured in the Federal Arsenals, following the design of Delafield, and apparently intended for use with Parrott 20 pounders. Projectile has iron cupped base that is integral with the shell, supplemented by five flanges cast into the body. This early design was submitted to the State of New York in 1862, but never used on the battlefields. The use of five flanges suggests this could have been intended for a 20 pounder Parrott, a weapon system that was saw extensive wartime use, but was not produced after the war. Projectile as theaded will take a Parrott zinc time fuze, however most have been found without fuzes. Projectile measures: diameter 3.6in., length 9.25in ., weight 12lbs.
