Schenkl percussion fuze, Army use for field projectiles, flanged rounded head
Fuze was manufactured in the Federal arsenals using Schenkl design, percussion fuze is brass, featuring a small flanged head and single slot for tightening. The fuze contains an internal slider topped with a percussion cap, which would detonate by striking against the slider cap. The gunner would install the fuze in the shell when ready for use, first a safety screw in the side to secure the slider would be released, the slider cap would be tightened after positioning the percussion cap inside. Flange is rounded and not ,marked Fuze generally early pattern Schenkl and Dyer shells. Fuze measures: length 2.6in., body diameter 1in. , flange diameter 1.25in., 10 threads per inch.

Schenkl combination fuze, early pattern
Fuze was manufactured in the Federal arsenals using Schenkl design, this complex fuze was designed to function both from time or percussion. The section at the top rotated, exposing a channel along a diagonal line into the powder chamber. The top of the fuze was marked for the time, with the longer the channel the longer burn time. A striker with a percussion cap was on the top, designed to detonate upon impact, or if this failed, the time fuze would eventually detonate the shell. Fuze measures: length 3.5in. (with cap), flange diameter 1.6in. diameter 1.1 in.

Schenkl combination fuze, later pattern
Fuze was manufactured in the Federal arsenals using Schenkl design, this complex fuze was designed to function both from time or percussion. The section at the top rotated, exposing a channel along a diagonal line into the powder chamber. The top of the fuze was marked for the time, with the longer the channel the longer burn time. This model differs from theearlier model as the striker is on the side and internal in the top, ignition waseffected by a flammable paste, which was protected by a metal bandcovered by cloth. The top of the fuze is marked 10 seconds and the strikerlatch is on the side of the fuze. Fuze measures: length 3.5in. (with cap), flange diameter 1.6in. diameter 1.1 in.
