Federal officer button, eagle with shield, (ExtraGilt210), (three part button, coat size, 22mm). Button was intended for officers, depicting patriotic symbolism of eagle grasping arrows for war and olive branch for peace. Backmark: "(shield), / (graphic) FINE (two dots) GOLD (two dots) PLATE (graphic)" dm on a ribbon, used for officer buttons only, likely manufacture by Steele & Johnson, ca. 1860, (ExtraGilt210).
