B3380...Georgia school button, Georgia Military Institute "GMI", "FINE / (dot) (star) (dot) GILT (dot) (star) (dot)", rmdc, (20.3mm). Button depicts state seal of Georgia, "GMI / CADET / 1851", Georgia Military Institute "GMI" was located in Marietta Georgia, formed in 1851, burned in 1864, and the cadets saw considerable action in the 1864 Atlanta campaign. Backmark: "FINE / (dot) (star) (dot) GILT (dot) (star) (dot)", rmdc, likely manufacture by Steele & Johnson, ca. 1850's, (Fine Gilt 100). Two part low convex button, cadet coat size. Button 3020 Georgia, Georgia Military Institute, Fine Gilt 100. Reference: Albert SU128, Tice GAS287. Dug button. Recovered: Ken Holcomb, Lafayette GA.
