B1050...South Carolina regimental button, Sullivans Island and "MG", Moultrie Guard, "W. H. JONES & CO / (dot) SUPERFINE. (dot)" rmdc, dm, (23.5mm) Button depicts depicts Sergeant William Jasper remounting the South Carolina flag on Fort Sullivan during the British bombardment of June 28, 1776. During the Civil War the Moultrie Guard served as part of the 1st South Carolina Rifles. Backmark: "W. H. JONES & CO / (dot) SUPERFINE. (dot)" rmdc, dm ring surrounds the channel, manufactured by W H Jones, 1835 to 1840, (Jones210). Two part low convex coat size button. Stand up shank intact, fully gilded, outstanding excavated example. Recovered: Bluffton, South Carolina by Bill McCraken, original discovery was published NST Vol XXVII, No 6, 2000, pg 17.
