B4437...Virginia state button, Virtus slaying the tyrant with sword down, "KENT. PAINE & CO. / RICHMOND (star) (dot) (star) (dot) (star)" stars obliterate "VA", rmdc, (22.3mm) Button depicts Virginia state seal, Virtus slaying the tyrant, intended for Virginia troops. This design of the state seal with the sword pointed down became prevalent from the 1850's. Kent Paine, Richmond, Virginia supplied uniforms, the buttons were made by Scovill. Backmark: "KENT. PAINE & CO. / RICHMOND (star) (dot) (star) (dot) (star)" stars obliterate "VA", rmdc stippled channel, Scovill manufacture, (Kent100). Two part convex button, coat size. nondug button.
