Federal officer button, eagle with shield, "JAMES S. SMITH & CO / (star) NEW - YORK (star)" rmdc, (22mm). Button was intended for officers, depicting patriotic symbolism of eagle grasping arrows for war and olive branch for peace. Backmark: "JAMES S.
