Federal officer button, eagle with shield, "STEELE / (star) & (star) JOHNSON (star) & (star)" dm, (22mm). Button was intended for officers, depicting patriotic symbolism of eagle grasping arrows for war and olive branch for peace. Backmark: "STEELE / (star) & (star) JOHNSON (star) & (star)" dm between two rings of dots, ca 1850s to 1860s, (SteeleJohnson210). Three part button, coat size. Research Center: Button1100-FedOfficer-SteeleJohnson210, This die pattern features eagle facing right surrounded by 24 stars, stripes only in shield with concave top, beveled corners, bulged side and pointed bottom, four arrows in right talon.
