B5109...Federal infantry button, eagle with "I", " STEELE (dot) & (dot) JOHNSON/ (dot) " dm, convex two part coat size, (20mm) Button depicts eagle facing right with "I" in the shield, generally for infantry officers. Backmark: " STEELE (dot) & (dot) JOHNSON/ (dot) " dm inner ring of dots, outer solid ring, ca 1860s, (Steele.250). Two part convex button, coat size. 1...Ref: Albert GI85 or GI88, Tice GI215, not listed. Die pattern, eagle wings are neat and symmetrical, tail with 5 feathers are nearly equal in length, shield is not symmetrical. Nondug button.
