Federal officer button, eagle with shield, "SUPERFINE GOLD PLATED / W. B. CO." dm, (22mm).
Button was intended for officers, depicting patriotic symbolism of eagle grasping arrows for war and olive branch for peace. Backmark: "SUPERFINE GOLD PLATED / W. B. CO." dm on two ribbons, inner ring of dots, manufactured by Waterbury Button Co, likely ca 1870's, (SuperfineGoldPlated100). Three part button, coat size.
Research Center: Button1100-FedOfficer-SuperfineGoldPlated100, This die pattern features eagle facing right surrounded by 23 stars, stars and stripes in shield with concave top, bulged sides and pointed bottom , four arrows in right talon. Reference: Albert GS, Tice GS.
