Van Wart Son & Co was an English manufacturer operating from the 1820's. It is not determined as to whether they actually made these buttons, or if either Smith Kemp Wright or C Rowley could have made them. Buttons were clearly made for the Confederacy. Updated research suggests that these buttons were seized by Federal authorities from a captured blockade runner. There are no credible recoveries from southern battlefields or camps.
