North Carolina, general use, one part button, sunburst, southern wartime manufacture. Backmark-zblankSouthernManufacture140
North Carolina button, sunburst, southern wartime maufacture. Button depicts sun bursting from NC in the center. Button depicts N.C surrounded by a sunburst, intended for North Carolina troops. This pattern features 8 symmetrical rays, N.C encircled on a lined background, sunrays on a stipled background with border. Collectors disagree as to whether this pattern is cast or die stamped. The author's opinion is that casting irregularities are noted in some backs that were not milled, and even though brazing to a casting is thought to have been difficult, it appears this producer found a way to accomplish it, this may also explain why production of this pattern was so limited. Backmark: blank back (no text), one part cast button, low convex, back may show marks from milling, non footed shank is brazed, small North Carolina manufacturer. Collectors disagree as to whether this pattern is cast or die stamped.
