Button6140-Pennsylvania-ReserveBrigade-PA226-Horstmann330
Pennsylvania button, Reserve Brigade. Backmark-Horstmann330
Pennsylvania military organization, Reserve Brigade, Philadelphia. This pattern, with backmark, Horstmann and Allien sunrays, was also issued to Georgia unit, Republican Blues Backmark: HORSTMANN & ALLIEN / (dot) NY dot dm between two solid rings, inner ring of rays, Steele & Johnson produced ca 1860, large coat size, (Horstmann330). Note that the length of the inner rays may appear to vary. If a button is shanked without pressing a well, then the rays remain at the full length, if a well channel is pressed then part of the rays will be pressed into the well and appear to be shorter. It is the opinion of the author that this was done when the button was shanked, and is not actually a variant in the die. Two part convex button, large coat size, 21mm to 23mm.
