EVANS & CO. / (star) EXTRA (star) dm inner solid ring, only used small size, backmark is transitional, manufacture 1860's and continued after the Civil War. Note that periods used after D and CO may be obscured and partial, missing entirely, or may appear as commas, this may be due to manufacturing variations in the stamping process, slippage, dirt or debris in the die, or replacement dies may have been cut omitting this punctuation. Two part convex button, hat or sleeve size, 14mm to 16mm.

CO. dm no rings, made in small size only, these cuff or hat buttons were manufactured in the 1850s, rings or rmdc details used on the large size buttons were omitted as an abbreviation to fit the space, dots, spacing and punctuation may vary or be obliterated, Scovill apparently produced multiple copies of this die. Two part convex button, hat or sleeve size, 14mm to 16mm.

Backmark: SCOVILLS & Co (dot under the o). / (dot) EXTRA (dot) dm between two solid rings, (outer ring may be obscured in the crimping), made in small size only. Backmark apparently was designed during the 1840's, however most use seems to have occurred during the 1850s and 1860s during the era of Scovill Manufacturing, the Scovills & Co name from an earlier period was used as a way to abbreviate the name to fit the space on a small button. Two part convex button, hat or sleeve size, 14mm to 16mm.
