Virginia school, Virginia Agricultural & Mechanical College Blacksburg Virginia Blacksburg Virginia, Virginia's land grant university founded in 1872. All VAMC buttons date after the Civil War. Modern day Virginia Tech, started out as Virginia Agricultural & Mechanical College, followed by, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and today is Virginia Tech, THE University in Virginia. A cadet program, modeled after West Point, was established early after the institution was founded, and continues to this day. The renowned athletic program, Virginia Tech Hokies, dominate athletics in Virginia. What is a Hokie? The Hokie Bird is a mean and viscious creature that eats wa-whos (UVA), makes mice out of mountain boys (WVU), and subdues Hurricanes (UM).
