Rifled percussion musket, English Enfield, 1860, .577cal, . The English Enfield muskets were developed for the British military and were generally thought to be superior to American made muskets of the period. Many were exported, a number of American military units, both north and south purchased them, many were smuggled through the blockade to southern ports during the war. Manufactured: England. Marks: Lock is marked 1860. Barrel is marked (graphic) 25 (graphic) 25 (graphic), which means .577cal.. Name of the stock maker may appear on bottom of butt.
