Research Center: Artillery3110-Archer, 3in.
Weapons used:
Confederate rifle, 3.in. is caliber of the gun, 7 grooves, (apparently copied from Federal 3 in. Ordnance rifle), projectile diameter should measure 2.94 in. approximately, variations will be found.

Research Center: Artillery3111-Archer
Rifled artillery projectile, Archer design, Confederate manufacture, solid bolt, short pattern with short nose and long tapered base, lead band sabot, Confederate rifle, 3 in.
Projectile was Confederate manufactured following the general designs of Junius Archer. A lead band sabot was cast onto the projectile secured by concentric grooves cast into the base of the shell. This pattern has two deep angled grooves, sabot extended to bottom groove leaving a long tapered knob on the base. Production of this pattern was limited, it appears to have been experimental and development moved to patterns with longer noses and shorter bases. Projectile measures: diameter 3.0in., length 6.0in. (excluding fuze), weight 6.8lb.

Research Center: Artillery3112-Archer
Rifled artillery projectile, Archer design, Confederate manufacture, solid bolt, short pattern with flat tip nose and short tapered base, lead band sabot, Confederate rifle, 3 in.
Projectile was Confederate manufactured following the general designs of Junius Archer. A lead band sabot was cast onto the projectile secured by concentric grooves cast into the base of the shell. This pattern was cast with distinct flat top, lead band sabot, two deep grooves to hold the sabot, a substantial knob was left on the bottom below the sabot. Production of this pattern was limited, it appears to have been experimental and development moved to longer patterns with more grooves. Projectile measures: diameter 3.0in., length 5.75in. (excluding fuze), weight 8.3lb.

Research Center: Artillery3113-Archer
Rifled artillery projectile, Archer design, Confederate manufacture, solid bolt, short pattern with long nose and short tapered base, lead band sabot, Confederate rifle, 3 in.
Projectile was Confederate manufactured following the general designs of Junius Archer. A lead band sabot was cast onto the projectile secured by concentric grooves cast into the base of the shell. This pattern has two deep angled grooves and one narrow groove, sabot extended to bottom groove leaving significant tapered knob on the base. This bolt had little fire power so the use of them was discontinued fairly early in the war. Projectile measures: diameter 2.94in., length 6in., weight 8lbs.
Research Center: Artillery3113-Archer, Ref: Dickey & George, Field Artillery (1993 Edition), pg. 78.

Research Center: Artillery3114-Archer
Rifled artillery projectile, Archer design, Confederate manufacture, solid bolt, long pattern with long nose and short tapered base, lead band sabot, Confederate rifle, 3 in.
Projectile was Confederate manufactured following the general designs of Junius Archer. A lead band sabot was cast onto the projectile secured by concentric grooves cast into the base of the shell. This pattern is long and has one deep angled groove, sabot extended to bottom groove leaving a significant knob on the base. Projectile measures: diameter 2.9in., length 7.0in. (excluding fuze), weight 7.6lb., without sabot.
Research Center: Artillery3114-Archer, Ref: Dickey & George, Field Artillery (1993 Edition), pg. 79.

Research Center: Artillery3115-Archer
Rifled artillery projectile, Archer design, Confederate manufacture, bursting shell, short pattern with long nose and short tapered base, without flame grooves, lead band sabot, wood time fuze, Confederate rifle, 3 in.
Projectile was Confederate manufactured following the general designs of Junius Archer. A lead band sabot was cast onto the projectile secured by concentric grooves cast into the base of the shell. This pattern has two deep angled grooves and one narrow groove, sabot extended to bottom groove leaving significant knob on the base. Fuze employed was a wood time fuze, Jones Fuzes pg. 2, fuze hole is smooth and tapered, the simple to make fuze could easily be hammered into place. Projectile measures: diameter 2.94in., length 6.0in. (excluding fuze), weight 5.5lb., no sabot.

Research Center: Artillery3116-Archer
Rifled artillery projectile, Archer design, Confederate manufacture, bursting shell, short pattern with long nose and short tapered base, with flame grooves, lead band sabot, wood time fuze, Confederate rifle, 3 in.
A flame groove running the exterior was idea copied from the Federals. Fuze employed was a wood time fuze, Jones Fuzes pg. 2, fuze hole is smooth and tapered, the simple to make fuze could easily be hammered into place. Projectile measures: diameter 2.94in., length 5.75in. (excluding fuze), weight 5.4lbs.
