Five shot percussion revolver, Colt Model 1849 pocket, round cylinder , 5in barrel, address New York, .31 cal. . Colt, Model 1849 pocket revolver was a percussion fired five shooter, .31 caliber, it was the most popular of the Colt revolvers, it could be concealed or easily carried and was popular for self defense both by civilians and military. The design followed Revolver was manufactured by Colt Firearms, Hartford Connecticut. Marks: Top of barrel is marked - ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U. S. AMERICA -. Left frame is marked COLTS / PATENT. Cylinder is marked with a stage coach scene, which is usually weak. Matching serial number, appears seven times, underneath on both sections of frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder (last five digits, wedge (five digits), and inside on cylinder pin (four digits). Standard design employed octagonal barrel, creeping style loading lever, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, three screws, cylinder is round, rotation controlled with notches, brass trigger guard and back strap, walnut grips. Colt, Model 1851 revolver, a percussion fired six shooter, .36 caliber, was originally designed for the Navy but widely utilized by others. Revolver was manufactured by Colt Firearms, Hartford Connecticut. Marks: Top of barrel is marked - ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW - YORK CITY -. Left frame is marked COLTS / PATENT Additional mark US means it was US Navy inspected. Cylinder was marked with a Naval scene, which is usually weak or worn away. Serial number appears seven times, underneath on both sections of frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, wedge, and inside on cylinder pin. Additional inspector marks may be found on trigger guard and other parts. Standard design employed an octagon barrel, creeping style loading lever, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, three screws, rounded cylinder with notches, rounded brass trigger guard, brass back strap, walnut grips. Colt, Model 1862 police revolver was a percussion fired five shooter, .36 caliber, it was considered to be an improved design over the series of Colt pocket revolvers. Revolver was manufactured by Colt Firearms, Hartford Connecticut. Marks: Top of barrel is marked - ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U. S. AMERICA -. Left frame is marked COLTS / PATENT. Cylinder is not marked. Matching serial number, appears seven times, underneath on both sections of frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, wedge, and inside on cylinder pin, production estimated 1864. Serial numbering began at 1 and continued to approximately 32,000 by the end of the Civil War. Standard design employed round barrel, creeping style loading lever, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, three screws, cylinder is rebated and half fluted, rotation controlled with notches, brass trigger guard andback strap, walnut grips. SEPT 10TH 1850, and a Naval scene with ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843, scene is usually very weak. Additional inspector mark may appears on the trigger guard, and other parts. Serial number appears seven times, underneath on both sections of frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder, wedge, and inside on cylinder pin. Standard design employed round barrel, creeping style loading lever, barrel and cylinder held in place and easily removed for loading by releasing removable wedge, four screws, rounded cylinder with notches, brass trigger guard, iron back strap with notch for engaging shoulder stock, walnut grips. These are antique collectible weapons of the Civil War (most are pre 1865, unless I state otherwise) and actual firing of these weapons is not recommended for any purpose whatsoever! Because these are all "pre 1898" weapons, no licenses are required for ownership, but common sense and good judgment should be applied.
